Rapid Runway Repair
Signature Systems Group offers the FFM (Folding Fiberglass Mat) runway repair system offered under US Military Specifications for rapid repair of damaged runways (NSN: 5680-01-368-9032). During combat situations, it is critical to be able to return runways to operation quickly and efficiently and the Folding Fiberglass Mat system was designed to do just that. With a limited crew and minimal handling equipment, FFM’s may be positioned over pre-prepared crushed limestone.
Such fiberglass mats are used as FOD (Foreign Object Debris) covers for crushed stone crater repairs as part of the US Air Force’s airfield damage repair (ADR) procedures. This system is also suitable for repair of damaged pavement facilities at air bases and airports. The mat provides a surface over the primary load-bearing system, which consists of
Each FFM collapsible fiberglass mat system consists of 9 sections each 6ft wide x 30ft, that are hinged together in an accordion fashion. The stored configuration is 6ft x 30ft x 12”, making this folding mat system highly transportable by air and position able by forklift or other material handling method. Each system weighs approximately 3,000 lbs and consists of 2 panels (54ft x 30ft), 2 joining panels (24ft x 2ft), and 2 joining panels (30ft x 2ft). Each mat is approximately 0.20 inches thick.
FFM systems, manufactured in accordance with the US military specification, have been in use in many operational theatres for over 10 years.
FFM Mats are certified for use by all US fighter aircraft and C-130 operations. The FFM FOD covers are not yet approved for C-17, C-5 Galaxy, C-141 Starlifter, KC-10 Extender, and KC-135 Stratotanker operations.
